First in the list, this distillery was first officially
constructed in 1826 by John and James Grant, but like many in
Scotland was probably in operation before that date. It was rebuilt
again in 1879-80 by James Fleming on a new site about a mile away and was up
and running by the time Alfred Barnard came to visit. The distillery was taken over again in 1892 by R. Thorne and Sons who seem to have continued operation until 1966 when Campbell Distilleries bought it. The distillery is now owned by the Pernod Ricard group and has become a strong brand here and abroad, it is favoured by the French, surprisingly. |

The malt is smooth and rich and finished in sherry wood. Ideal for after dinner. It comes as a 10 year which is easy to find and a better 12 year old and now a cask strength version. | ||
