This is one of the
lightest single malt whisky's to be found. The distillery is part of the
Suntory Morrison-Bowmore group, the name is pronounced "OCHEN-TOSHAN".
The original distillery was built at the start of the 19th century before
the act of Parliament in 1823 at Old Kilpatrick, which has since been
absorbed into Glasgow. Despite this the whisky has still managed to retain
it's character.
The Auchentoshan distillery is about the only one that continues to triple
distil its
single malt, the others staying with the double still process. This is
what lowland distillers traditionally used as their method of production. |
So
although the distillery uses ingredients from the Highlands region, the
resulting malt is very fine and light due to the extra distilling. It makes
it very sweet and easy on the palette. There are a couple of ageings available, the standard 10 year old and a
more refined 21 year offering, if you find the latter - buy it. Some
independents also offer Auchentoshan |
