The original building was put up in 1840 by J & J Grant of the
legendary Grant dynasty who ran it pretty un-spectacularly until Seagram got hold of it and modernised it. Grants extended production in 1973 to 6 stills but the brand really expanded under Seagrams ownership in 1977 when they upped capacity to 10 stills. Sadly this compromised the quality a bit. Since Seagram bought this classic Scottish distillery in 1977, it has become more successful, especially abroad. |

However, the 10 year old is not a patch on the older produce. If I get hold of any pre 78 stock I'll let you know. I don't want to say much about it as I don't like it a lot. |
