The
distillery was built in 1836 by Robert Hay near Ballindalloch in the
Spey valley. It was bought by J & G Grant in 1865 who's family still
own it and run it well today. The distillery was virtually completely rebuilt in 1897 and new equipment installed. Production was increased again in 1960 when two new stills were added. This was done again in 1976 as the brand continued to be successful allowing the building to be refurbished again. Most of the distillery now has a modern appearance with just a number of the warehouses dating back to the Victorian era. They have also acquired a still from the old Leith-Mills distillery which has pride of place in their visitors centre, the one in the picture is one of theirs, which are about the largest on Speyside. |
