Knockando

Knockando DistilleryKnockando was built in 1898 by the Knockando-Glenlivet company, it didn't last long and was bought by J. Thomson and Sons two years later. Just two years after that W&A Gilbey were to take over the operation.

They then merged with Unwins to form IDV in 1962, International Distillers and Vintners finally sold up to Grand Met in 1975.

The name means 'Small black hill', which is what the distillery is built on - a small black hill overlooking the river Spey.

The malt is likeable, smooth with a hint of nuts. Bottling is at the whisky's peak, which is usually 12 - 15 years, anything less is not worth the bottle.
