This has not been one of Scotland's more successful distilleries in
recent years. It was built in 1772 and ran for over 100 years before being
rebuilt in 1875 but the lat Victorian down turn saw it close in 1884. It was
re-opened in 1988 by Gibson Brothers but the malt produced was harsh and inconsistent,
and Gibson went through in 1994. It's up for sale by all accounts, but needs
a lot of work as the site is decaying rapidly.
The malt is getting rare, but distillery bottles can still be found.
