Strathisla

Strathisla Legend has it that distilling was being practiced as early as 1208 (unsubstantiated), but the current distillery was established as the Milton Distillery in 1708 on the present site on the edge of Keith alongside the Isla river.

The buildings date back to that era making it one of the oldest and prettiest distilleries in Scotland. It is currently owned by Chivas Brothers who are part of Seagrams, and most of the output goes into the Chivas Regal blend.

Strathisla 1960One of the biggies, this malt is full of flavour and has a long sherry finish, and it gets better with time. The distilleries produce usually comes out as a 12 year old but independents will supply other ages which are better. I have a couple of Gordon & Macphails from 1960 which is absolutely gorgeous (one open and one to retire with). It's smoky and has a terrific finish
